They’re one of our smallest buildings, but with some of the biggest community interest, which is why the Rural City of Murray Bridge is inviting community feedback on its Draft Public Toilet Strategy.
This strategy will guide the future provision, renewal and management of public toilet facilities across the region, acknowledging the important role they play in supporting residents, visitors and community participation by providing essential facilities in public spaces, parks, reserves and recreational areas.
The Draft Public Toilet Strategy has been developed to provide a consistent and strategic approach to the planning of public toilet infrastructure. It aims to ensure facilities are located where they are needed, are fit for purpose and continue to meet the changing needs of the community.
The Strategy is built around three key strategic directions:
• Facilities where they are needed
• Facilities that are fit for place, purpose and people
• Facilities that are clean, safe and well managed
The Strategy is needs-based and considers factors such as accessibility, usage patterns, community expectations, service levels and long-term asset management requirements. Accessibility and inclusion are also key considerations, ensuring we support a broad range of users and align with accessibility standards.
The Draft Public Toilet Strategy includes an implementation plan and priority renewal and upgrade works. Proposed high-priority projects include public toilet facilities at Johnstone Park and Avoca Dell Reserve.
In conjunction with consultation on the strategy, Council is gathering community feedback through survey posters displayed in public toilets across the region. Feedback received to date has been insightful, valuable and mostly positive. Responses will continue to be collected throughout the consultation period and included in the report presented for consideration.
Community members can view the draft strategy and provide feedback via Council’s consultation portal letstalk.murraybridge.sa.gov.au and paper copies can be found at the Local Government Centre and the Murray Bridge Library.
Feedback on the draft strategy can be provided via:
